An opportunity to visit this fascinating corner of Wiltshire where woodland conceals some surprising archaeology. The walk will explore sarsen stones, a long barrow, the famous Wansdyke and other features in West Woods near Lockeridge about 2 miles SW of Marlborough.
Meet: in the main West Woods Forestry Commission car park at SU 162666 ready for a 10am start.
Directions: Take the A4 west out of Marlborough for 1.5 miles. Turn left into a lane through Clatford Bottom to reach the car park after c.1.5 miles. Coming from the south via Pewsey, turn left off the A345 c.1.5miles after Oare village.
Accessibility: The terrain is woodland, the paths range from solid gravelled tracks to woodland paths often muddy, with two short steep sections. There is no public toilet here. For refreshments bring a packed lunch or there are pubs afterwards in Lockeridge or Marlborough.
