There are two hills to explore on this day but you can do either one or both according to keenness and stamina.
We will meet at the WAFA barn at 10.00am for tea/coffee before heading off to Hod, the largest Iron Age hillfort in Dorset with its well-preserved settlement remains and impressive Roman fort.
We will be back by 1.00pm for lunch which can be taken in one of the local pubs or bring a picnic to WAFA (tea/coffee provided).
At 2.00pm we leave for Hambledon, the complex of Neolithic enclosures and funerary monuments which were extensively explored in the 1970’s. And there’s an Iron Age hillfort there as well…. Sunset isn’t until 6.30pm! Return to WAFA for more yet more tea and probably cake…
Meeting place – Mick’s Barn (grid ref ST 864102), which is just north of Stourpaine on the A350, on the right just after leaving the village:
Note: the walk includes some steep slopes, so suitable footwear and fitness are required.
If you are planning on only visiting one of the two hills please let us know which option (morning Hod or afternoon Hambledon) you are booking for as we will need to know for registration purposes. Many thanks.
